Intel, the renowned U.S. chipmaker, has set its sights on revolutionizing the tech industry with its focus on AI-enabled PCs. The company aims to provide core processors for up to 100 million artificial intelligence-enabled PCs by 2025, marking a significant shift in the way PCs are designed and utilized.

At the heart of Intel’s strategy is the integration of AI capabilities into its processors, with the goal of enhancing user experiences and performance. Intel Vice President of Client Computing Group, David Feng, emphasized the importance of not only chip performance but also services and user experience in the era of AI PCs. He highlighted the need for collaborations with software and application developers to bring innovative experiences to life.

Collaborating closely with Microsoft, Intel is working towards defining the concept of the AI PC. This concept revolves around the company’s Core Ultra PC chipset, which features a built-in neural processing unit (NPU) designed to handle AI workloads, Microsoft’s AI chatbot, Copilot, and a dedicated “Copilot key” on the keyboard. This innovative approach is expected to drive enterprise spending, as AI PCs have the potential to significantly boost work efficiency.

Furthermore, Intel is expanding its partnerships and use cases to attract more partners and offer a range of AI-powered features. One notable collaboration is with video conference service providers such as Microsoft Teams, Webex, and Zoom, aiming to introduce features like eye tracking, background removal, and smart framing to enhance the user experience during virtual meetings.

Intel is strengthening partnerships with security software developers to leverage the NPU for advanced features like anti-phishing and ransomware detection

The AI PC being developed by Intel and Microsoft will offer cutting-edge features such as instant translation of American sign language, real-time transcription of videos, and automatic conversion of text to PowerPoint slides. Additionally, Intel is strengthening partnerships with security software developers to leverage the NPU for advanced features like anti-phishing and ransomware detection.

Despite facing competition from Apple and Qualcomm in the Arm-based computer market, the company remains a dominant player in the PC industry, controlling about 76% of the market share for chips used in laptops. With the global PC market experiencing a significant inventory correction post-COVID, the shift towards AI PCs is seen as a key driver for industry growth. As major PC makers gear up to introduce AI PCs in the market, Intel’s focus on innovation and collaboration is set to reshape the future of computing.
