With third-party garages offering battery replacements for half the price, Tesla and CEO Elon Musk have faced a surge of criticism over the high cost of replacing a battery. For batteries that have been used for 150,000 miles or eight years and have lost 70 percent of their capacity, Tesla will replace them free of charge. Tesla’s newer cars, on the other hand, are experiencing battery failures that have saddled owners with significant repair payments from Tesla.
