Many of us want to achieve big dreams, but end up holding back because of the fear of taking risks. When thinking about our big goals and dreams, we are often thinking of the end result. There is so much in between our reality now, and our dream, that the stuff in the middle can be overwhelming. This is one of the big reasons why we never start (or start way later than we should.)

This is why goal setting is very important. The best way to do this is by breaking down your roadmap to success by 3 types of goals:

Immediate, Intermediate, and Stretch Goals.

  1. Set a Stretch Goal

Start by developing your stretch goal. This is your long-term goal or dream of where you want to be in your life. It is best to start with this stretch goal so that we know where we want to end up. When setting your stretch goal, be as specific as possible. Write them down on a piece of paper, or better yet, create a vision board. The stretch goal can take years to accomplish, but this is definitely where we want to be in our lives.

  1. The Immediate Goals

Next, set some immediate goals. As the stretch goal is big, the immediate goals are smaller with deadlines that are very soon. These are weekly deadlines that you must set for yourself that you will be able to cross these goals off of your list. These “baby” goals will keep you on your roadmap and keep you in line to achieve your intermediate goals.

  1. Pick Intermediate Goals

The Intermediate goals are broader than the immediate goals and can have monthly or yearly deadlines. Set a time frame of 3 months of 6 months and write down what you want to have accomplished by then. Achieving these Intermediate goals might push you more outside of your comfort zone than immediate goals, but that is a good thing. It is when we are outside of our comfort zones that we grow and learn the wisdom we need to learn to become who we want to be.
